Cost Sharing

Cost sharing or matching means that portion of project or program costs not borne by the Federal Government.

Effort Commitment

Effort is work or the proportion of time spent on any activity and expressed as a percentage of University time. It does not equate to a 40 hour week or a fixed number of hours. Effort may be paid or unpaid. All effort whether paid or unpaid.

Effort Certification is the reporting and confirmation of one’s time spent conducting any university activity that typically is expressed as a percentage of the total institutional compensated based time (Institutional Based Salary (IBS))

Subrecipient

This means the legal entity to which a subaward is made and which is accountable to the recipient for the use of the funds provided. The term may include foreign or international organizations (such as agencies of the United Nations) at the discretion of the Federal awarding agency.

If you plan to include one or multiple subrecipients in your proposal, the following information needs to be obtained from each organization that will be given a subaward.

  1. Letter of intent
  2. Budget and budget justification
  3. Statement of work
  4. Subrecipient’s F&A agreement
  5. Provider Category Determination
  6. Worksheet (go to HERE and pickup this form)
